Biography

Florian Markowetz is a Senior Group Leader at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. He is a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award holder and received a CRUK Future Leader in Cancer Research prize. He holds degrees in Mathematics (Dipl. math.) and Philosophy (M.A.) from the University of Heidelberg and a Dr. rer. nat. (PhD equivalent) in Computational Biology from Free University Berlin, for which he was awarded an Otto-Hahn Medal by the Max Planck Society. His group at the CRUK Cambridge Institute combines computational work on cancer evolution and image analysis of the tumour tissue with experimental work on understanding key cancer mechanisms like the estrogen receptor.

Biography

In my role as Academic Services Librarian, I manage services delivered in the Haddon Library with a specific focus on supporting teaching and research for the Departments of Archaeology and Social Anthropology. I am also the Research Support Lead for the Humanities and Social Sciences Libraries Team, working across the School of HSS to support research excellence and training as well as assisting in exercises such as the REF.

I am an Affiliated Lecturer in Architecture and the Moving Image and a researcher working with large audio-visual datasets. I’ve been working in the Department of Psychiatry for almost a decade now. I specialise in improving process and workflow and in research data management. I also work in branding, digital recruitment, website design and administration, social media management, and data architecture. I am particularly good at thinking of new and creative solutions to emerging problems. I am currently working on ways to govern and organise the many research projects within my department and in the School of Clinical Medicine, and on creating ways to share research and imaging data (MRI, PET etc) openly.

Karla’s professional experiences before the PhD included working for the non-alcoholic beverage industry in Mexico in the areas of quality, environment protection and operations management.

Biography

As the Research Support Librarian at the Department of Engineering I am part of the Technology Libraries team providing library services for the Departments of Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, and Computer Science and Technology. My role includes providing training and advice on research data management and open data. I became a Data Champion in my previous role as the Library Manager at the Cambridge Conservation Initiative, supporting nature conservation researchers from the university and NGOs. I have previous experience, from research during masters degrees, working with ethnographic data in libraries and statistical analysis of palaeobiology data using R.
