Ali is Senior Data Scientist and public-health/transport modeller in the Public Health Modelling (PHM) group at the MRC-Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge. He is interested in active travel, specifically cycling research. 

Coming from a Computer Science background, with a focus on modelling in his PhD, for over a decade, he has been doing data-driven research and development. This includes Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), Statistical Modelling (or Machine Learning), Interactive Visualization, all with a focus on collaborative, transparent and reproducible research. I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Scott Polar Research Institute, where I use a combination of novel satellite imaging techniques, airborne geophysical observations and climate-ocean model data to investigate the key climatic drivers responsible for controlling the rapid deterioration of the Antarctic Ice Sheet since the onset of the satellite era (~1970-present). As such, I have a range of experience in the handling, processing and visualisation of complex geospatial datasets, and have experience in the usage of several different computer programming languages to do this. My experience also includes the long-term archiving and preservation of data to support scientific reproducibility, ranging from the publication of small, project-specific datasets to institutional collections (including assisting with the recent publication of SPRI’s historical Arctic airborne radio echo sounding data archives).

I am a PhD student based at the Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge. My research is aimed at disentangling the relationship between technology use and youth mental health. I am passionate about Open Science, and I am a junior representative of Rotterdam RIOT a science club that promotes reproducible, interpretable, open and transparent research practices. Before my PhD, I graduated in Psychology from Erasmus University Rotterdam and subsequently attended an MSc in Research Methods at the University of Oxford.

Qi received her PhD at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she developed computational methods to study alternative splicing and the evolution of HIV. Later she joined the UCLA Division of Dermatology to help identify the resistance mechanisms of targeted cancer therapies using computational tools. 
    
In 2011 she was awarded the Humboldt Research Fellowship to work in the Division of Theoretical Bioinformatics, and later the Division of Applied Bioinformatics, at the German Cancer Research Centre. There she worked on diverse bioinformatics projects with NGS data, such as studying genome-wide epigenetic regulation of cell differentiation, developing sequencing protocols and detecting somatic mutations from whole-genome sequencing data, as well as data integration and predictive modelling. 
    
Currently, she provides bioinformatics training and support to PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in the lab of Professor Beverley Glover.
